Meet Our Family

Hi, we’re the Hammonds!  One our values is “Better Together”.  We believe when we are about God’s mission in the world, we are better together than any attempt we could make individually.

If you would have told me ten years ago that I would be living in Haiti as a missionary I would never have believed you.  But, God knew!  I am so thankful that God has our family here.  We love Haiti.  Life in Haiti is definitely different and it brings all kinds of new challenges.  However, it is good to call Haiti home!
My role at Sonlight Academy is teaching the Scriptures to high school students.  I believe when a person truly understands the story of the Bible, all of life will begin to make much more sense to them.  Life as a teenager in Haiti is difficult to say the least, and finding Jesus amongst the difficulty is truly a journey of faith.  I love to see the “lights come on” in a students heart and head when they discover the real Jesus.  He changes everything!
I also teach at Sonlight Bible College.  This is a complete joy for me!  Being able to work with Haiti’s rising leaders is so fun.  I love stretching them in their understanding and helping them construct new ways of thinking.  I am also enjoying working with Church leaders in Port-de-Paix.

Susan

Susan
I’m Susan, aka Madame Brad, and I teach third grade at Sonlight Academy.  I’m convinced that third grade is the best because the kids are still small enough to think you’re cool!  I honestly can’t believe that I get to invest in the lives of 30 little kiddos every day!  What a great opportunity and responsibility!  I pray that the seeds planted in third grade will help them grow into the men and women that God wants them to be.  In class we cover all the important subjects like Math and Reading, but the most important thing is introducing them to a relationship with the Savior.  My constant prayer is that they would grow up to love the Lord all the days of their lives!

Casey

Casey

Hey! My name is Casey. I’m seventeen; I’m going to be a senior this year!  There are only eleven students in my class, and guess what?   We’re all girls!  I love school in Haiti.  I feel like I learn a lot, and it’s a lot of fun too!  People always ask me how I like life in Haiti and I always tell them that I love it!  It’s home now.  My neighbors are nice  and the kids are pretty hilarious!  It’s amazing to look back on the last four years and see how I’m changing and the people around me are changing!  I love it!  God is good!

Carter

CarterS’ak Pase?  I’m Carter. I’m a 16 year old sophomore at Sonlight.  I love playing sports, especially basketball and soccer.  I enjoy hanging out with my friends, both Haitian and American!  I love living in Haiti! School is great because we learn a lot, but we have tons of fun doing it.  I have a blast joking around with my classmates.  Another thing that I love about Haiti is that I get to learn the language, Haitian Creole.  It’s awesome to be able to have normal conversations with Haitians as if I’m a Haitian too!  It’s crazy to see how much my family has changed since moving to Haiti in 2011!  I can’t wait to get back to Haiti for our 5th year and hopefully many more to come!

One of my favorite parts of school is getting to see my friends.  I like to learn new things in school.  I love living in Haiti!
